Bright Angel Trail Construction Update

By RaftArizona • February 7, 2023

The National Park Service (NPS) has various construction projects planned in the inner canyon beginning in the fall of 2023. We are very excited about the pending upgrades. However, a statement from NPS noted, “portions of the Bright Angel Trail are anticipated to be closed at different times throughout the project.” When the trail is closed, we will not run our trips with a hike into or out of the canyon as planned. Currently, the exact timeline for the construction projects has not been announced. Therefore, we have decided not to take reservations for hike trips during the 2024 season until more details are available.

The vast majority of our trips are unaffected by the pending trail closures. Again, this only affects trips with a hike into or out of the canyon (Upper and Lower Canyon Trips). We know this is disappointing to many of you, but we don’t want you to book a trip that might not happen.

So what are your options now?

Click here to join our email list to be notified if the hike trips become available for 2024. Remember, the hike in and out of the canyon is strenuous.
– ARR and our sister company, Grand Canyon Whitewater, have a few hike trips available in 2023. Check out our availability page to see if you can jump on a trip this year.
– Consider a full canyon trip like our 13 Day Oar trip. If you can’t get away for that many days, our 7 Day Motor trip is one of our most popular. The 7 Day Motor trip travels 187 river miles from Lees Ferry to Whitmore Wash. You experience all of the major rapids and iconic side hikes. End the trip with a helicopter flight out of the canyon and a flight back to your starting location.

As always, call our office at 800.477.7238 if you have any questions about your options. We’d love to help get you on the river!

No question too small!
