Insurance – We buy it for our car, home, life, health, dental, flood, etc. It’s one of those things we hope never to need, but we’re really glad to have it if we do need it. Trip insurance is no different. No one books intending to cancel, but it happens every year for unexpected reasons. Quite often in fact. Some people lose their deposit (ouch), while others lose their full trip cost (mega-ouch)!
For your convenience we offer Travelex Insurance. Currently, their plans are only available to U.S. residents or citizens. If you are an international guest, you’ll have to research insurance in your area, one option is World Nomads.
Purchasing travel insurance helps protect your investment, and you can get reimbursed by the insurance company for a wide variety of cancellations. Do your research right away!! Many insurance companies exclude certain coverages if you don’t purchase within a specified period of time – for example, if you have any pre-existing medical conditions.
We know the fine print can be daunting, but we’ve seen first-hand how devastated people are when they have to cancel their bucket list trip. Being able to potentially get your money back eases the pain and helps ensure that you can join us on the river another time.
Here are just a few of the many reasons people cancel:
– Job loss
– Broken leg, arm, foot, etc.
– Close relative in hospice care or passes away
– Hospitalization – illness, appendicitis, heart attack, etc. (See note about pre-existing conditions above.)
– Cancer diagnosis
– Weather and airplane delays en route to the trip
We encourage guests to research their options within a few days of paying the deposit. You can also check with your credit card company as some companies provide coverage if you use their card to pay for the trip.
Full terms and details of a travel insurance plan, including limitations and exclusions, can be found in the travel insurance plan policy or description of coverage that you review, choose to purchase, or found via the links above.
We simply cannot recommend travel insurance enough!
